Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, and Reno County Extension, will give beginning and
experienced vegetable growers new skills to improve their production methods and
marketing skills for selling their local vegetables, while meeting an increasing demand for locally grown produce.
The new Friday workshop will explore tomato grafting techniques in-depth, including a
hands-on tomato grafting exercise.
On Saturday, featured speakers include Lance Chastain of Chautauqua Hills Blueberry
Farm, Mark Jirak of Jirak Farms and Becky Walters of Walters Pumpkin Patch. The
workshop will cover the basic vegetable and fruit production with a special emphasis on
niche crops. Topics will include: Biopesticides, food safety, marketing, water challenges,growing herbs, tree fruit, nuts, and melons.The workshop will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, February 18, 2012 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in 4-H Hall at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center at 21st and Ridge in Wichita. Cost of registration is $10 for Friday and $20 for Saturday. The registration deadline is Tuesday, February 14.
