KPTS Documentaries Receive Honors

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

We’ve just received another round of awards for our documentary productions. Join me in congratulating Gabe Juhnke and Stacey Jenkins our award-winning producers.
The Dockum Sit-in: A Legacy of Courage recently received a Silver Telly Award for documentary production, the highest award in this division. This film, about a group of African-American teenagers who, in 1958, staged the first successful student-led sit-in in the modern civil rights movements, also was honored with an Award of Merit from the American Association of State and Local History. We are extremely honored to be recognized for the production elements of this project as well as its historical significance and accuracy.  We are also grateful to the sit-in participants who allowed us to tell this fascinating and important story.
Wichita Antiques Roadshow: Behind the Scenes also received a pair of awards. This lively “behind the scene” tour of the Antiques Roadshow visit to Wichita in July 2008 received a Bronze Telly for it’s entertainment value and another Bronze Telly for the creative editing used to tell the story.
We are currently shooting interviews, gathering information, and shooting footage in Colorado for our next documentary on the 1970 WSU plane crash.
Join us in celebration of these honors. And, thank you for your generosity. We couldn’t produce award-winning documentaries about stories of local importance without the support from viewers like you.
