Diversity Statement
Kansas Public Telecommunications Service, Inc. (PBS Kansas) knows that a diverse workforce, management team, governing body, and Community Advisory Board contribute greatly to our knowledge and understanding of the region’s diverse communities, and to our ability to deliver content and services that will help us attract, grow and engage audiences.
We define diversity and inclusion broadly: “Diversity” refers to the variety of differences and similarities among people. “Inclusion” refers to how these differences and similarities are respected and create an equitable, healthy, and high-performing organization or community in which all individuals and their contributions are valued and each is able to participate and contribute to their full potential.
We endeavor to recruit Board of Trustee, Staff, and Community Advisory Board members from a broad pool of candidates enabling us to hire and promote qualified candidates with a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, personal experiences and characteristics, and talents that reasonably reflect the diverse needs and interests of the communities served by PBS Kansas. The Board of Trustees and staff reasonably reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.
PBS Kansas will continue to explore new opportunities for achieving and promoting this diversity and to monitor and evaluate our success. That means PBS Kansas adopts and will always meet the standards of federal and state law, KPTS’ Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Diversity Eligibility Criteria.
In our efforts to increase diversity, staff periodically review hiring/source results for diversity applicants to see if they are effective.
Plans for the upcoming year
In the coming year, staff will seek out new sources of diversity to improve the pool from which to choose new hires. The Board of Trustees Recruitment Committee will make diverse candidates a priority.
PBS Kansas will review the diversity policy, practices, and objectives with hiring managers.
Actions Taken
