We enrich our community with quality arts, cultural and educational programs and services that contribute to lifelong learning.
A great community deserves a great digital public media operation . . . one that is capable of delivering community-building television and digital media programs and services and is the “voice and the platform” for its community.
PBS Kansas relies upon the following guiding principles:
- We value serving our community through commercial-free and subscription-free access.
- We value the diversity of thought, expression, and interests in our community.
- We value knowledge, illuminate challenges, celebrate achievements, and encourage a passion for discovery.
- We value building and maintaining relationships with all our stakeholders.
- We value willingness to change and encourage creative thinking and solutions
Plans for the upcoming year
In the coming year, staff will seek out new sources of diversity to improve the pool from which to choose new hires. The Board of Trustees Recruitment Committee will make diverse candidates a priority.
PBS Kansas will review the diversity policy, practices and objectives with hiring managers.
PBS Kansas leadership reviewed with its governing board historical data, the diversity policy and statement, and those practices designed to fulfill its commitment to diversity and to meet the applicable FCC guidelines.
Kansas Public Telecommunications Service, Inc. (PBS Kansas) knows that a diverse workforce, management team, governing body, and Community Advisory Board contribute greatly to our knowledge and understanding of the region’s diverse communities, and to our ability to deliver content and services that will help us attract, grow and engage audiences.
We define diversity and inclusion broadly: “Diversity” refers to the variety of differences and similarities among people. “Inclusion” refers to how these differences and similarities are respected and create an equitable, healthy, and high-performing organization or community in which all individuals and their contributions are valued and each is able to participate and contribute to their full potential.
We endeavor to recruit Board of Trustee, Staff and Community Advisory Board members from a broad pool of candidates enabling us to hire and promote qualified candidates with a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, personal experiences and characteristics, and talents that reasonably reflect the diverse needs and interests of the communities served by PBS Kansas. The Board of Trustees and staff reasonably reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.
PBS Kansas will continue to explore new opportunities for achieving and promoting this diversity and to monitor and evaluate our success. That means PBS Kansas adopts and will always meet the standards of federal and state law, PBS Kansas’ Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Diversity Eligibility Criteria.
In our efforts to increase diversity, staff periodically review hiring/source results for diversity applicants to see if they are effective.
